TikToker Camilla Alhassan has been jailed for one year after admitting to publishing false claims about President John Mahama. Here's what the court ruled.

TikToker Camilla Alhassan has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of offensive conduct and the publication of false news linked to videos she made about President John Dramani Mahama.

The sentence was handed down on Thursday, July 16, 2026, after the 43-year-old admitted to all the charges brought against her.

The prosecution stemmed from a series of videos posted on TikTok in which Alhassan alleged, without providing any evidence, that President Mahama buried 32 cows as part of rituals to secure victory in the 2024 general election.

The videos circulated widely on social media and prompted an investigation by the Ghana Police Service, leading to her arrest and prosecution.

At an earlier court hearing, Alhassan pleaded guilty to the offences. The presiding judge subsequently ordered her to undergo a pregnancy test before sentencing, and she was remanded into custody pending the outcome.

Following the completion of the court process, the Accra Circuit Court sentenced her to one year's imprisonment.

Prior to her arrest, Alhassan shared another video in which she claimed that a woman she identified as an officer from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had instructed her to report to the CID headquarters or face arrest.

The case has sparked widespread public debate over the responsible use of social media platforms, the dangers of misinformation, and the legal consequences of publishing false and defamatory content online.

The ruling also serves as a reminder that individuals who disseminate unverified allegations through digital platforms may face criminal prosecution under Ghanaian law.
