AFCON 2025: Morocco vs Nigeria - Preview and prediction

Nigeria will lock horns with host nation Morocco on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, marking one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the tournament.
The match features two of Africa’s best-performing sides and several elite players, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Achraf Hakimi, all of whom have played key roles in pushing their countries into the final four.
Nigeria entered the competition with modest expectations after missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, under head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles have transformed into serious contenders, winning all five matches so far while playing dynamic, attacking football.
Chelle’s men opened their campaign with a 2-1 victory against Tanzania before edging Tunisia 3-2 in a thriller that sealed early qualification.

A rotated side defeated Uganda 3-1 in the final group fixture, followed by a 4-0 demolition of Mozambique in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, the Super Eagles produced their most complete performance yet, dispatching tournament favourites Algeria 2-0.
Nigeria are the tournament’s highest scorers with 14 goals and have conceded only four, led by the firepower of Osimhen, Lookman and Alex Iwobi.
Midfield control from Wilfred Ndidi and strong defensive reading by Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali have provided balance and stability.
Morocco, the host nation, have been equally impressive, building their campaign on defensive structure and efficient finishing.
The Atlas Lions topped Group A after beating Comoros (2-0) and Zambia (3-0) and holding Mali to 1-1.
