Albacete stun Real Madrid to reach Copa del Rey quarter-finals

Referee Garcia’s final whistle confirmed one of the most remarkable results in recent Spanish football as Albacete secured a historic 3-2 victory over giants Real Madrid at Estadio Carlos Belmonte.
The LaLiga 2 side produced a fearless performance, overcoming pressure and proving their mettle against one of Europe’s elite.
Albacete drew first blood in the 42nd minute when Villar rose to head in Lazo’s precise corner. However, the lead was short-lived, as Real Madrid responded dramatically in stoppage time of the first half.
Mastantuono capitalised on a lapse in concentration to fire home an equaliser, levelling the score 1-1 at the break.

Undeterred, Albacete continued to absorb Madrid’s attacks in the second half before taking the lead once more in the 82nd minute.
Betancor seized on defensive errors and unleashed a superb left-footed volley past Lunin, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Madrid responded immediately, equalising again from a corner when Guler found Garcia, who finished with composure in the first minute of stoppage time.
The match seemed destined for extra time, but Albacete had one more twist in store.

In a breathtaking finale, Betancor raced clear and curled a sublime finish into the far corner, sealing a 3-2 victory and sparking scenes of jubilation.
Despite registering just 0.65 expected goals (xG) to Madrid’s 1.32, the home side’s resilience and clinical finishing earned them a memorable triumph.
Albacete now advance to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, where they will host Cadiz on Sunday. Real Madrid, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as they prepare to face Levante.
