The Black Stars of Ghana will face the Three Lions of England in a crucial Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Tuesday evening.

Ghana secured a dramatic late victory against Panama in their opening match thanks to a decisive goal from Caleb Yirenkyi, earning three important points ahead of the tough encounter with England.

England, meanwhile, were not entirely convincing in their opening game against Croatia. Despite defensive lapses that saw them concede twice in the first half, the Three Lions still delivered one of the tournament’s most impressive attacking displays on Matchday One.

With both sides aiming to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages, Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to make a few tactical adjustments while maintaining the team’s balance and defensive solidity.

Goalkeeper

Benjamin Asare

Benjamin Asare is expected to start in goal for Ghana against England after first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi suffered an injury during the match against Panama and was unable to continue in the second half.

Although Ati-Zigi has reportedly returned to training, Queiroz may decide not to risk him for such a high-intensity encounter, paving the way for Asare to retain his place between the posts.

Defence

Ghana’s four-man defensive system worked effectively against Panama, and the coaching staff are likely to stick with the same setup.

Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku are expected to continue their partnership in central defence, while Gideon Mensah should retain his role at left-back. Marvin Senaya is also likely to keep his position at right-back as Ghana aim to contain England’s dangerous attacking threats.

Midfield

Thomas Partey is expected to return to the starting lineup after missing the Panama game due to visa issues that prevented his entry into Canada.

The experienced midfielder is likely to partner Caleb Yirenkyi, who impressed with his energetic and composed performance in the opening match. Elisha Owusu could complete the midfield trio in what is expected to be a three-man midfield system designed to provide defensive stability and control against England.

Attack

Antoine Semenyo was one of Ghana’s standout performers against Panama and was deservedly named Man of the Match. Semenyo is expected to keep his place on the left wing as he looks to continue his strong form.

Ernest Nuamah is likely to operate on the right flank, using his pace and creativity to trouble England’s defence, while captain Jordan Ayew is expected to lead the attack in a 4-3-2-1 formation.

Predicted Ghana XI vs England

Benjamin Asare, Marvin Senaya, Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku, Gideon Mensah, Thomas Partey, Caleb Yirenkyi, Elisha Owusu, Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, and Jordan Ayew.
