Morocco booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals with a commanding 2-0 victory over five-time champions Cameroon in Rabat, courtesy of goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismael Saibari.

Roared on by a passionate crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the Atlas Lions made a blistering start, immediately forcing the Indomitable Lions onto the back foot with a series of dangerous deliveries into the penalty area.

Cameroon captain Nouhou Tolo endured a busy opening spell, marshalling the defence to keep David Pagou’s side level in the early exchanges.

Morocco’s relentless pressure finally paid off in the 26th minute. Díaz, one of the stars of the tournament, reacted quickest to Ayoub El Kaabi’s headed knockdown, steering the ball past goalkeeper Devis Epassy for his fifth goal of the campaign.

With momentum surging, Morocco came close to doubling their advantage before the break, as Abde Ezzalzouli and El Kaabi both flashed efforts agonisingly wide.

Cameroon emerged from halftime with renewed energy, dominating possession as they pushed for a response.

Yet despite their control of the ball, Morocco continued to pose the greater attacking threat. Ezzalzouli went close again with a glancing header, while Cameroon’s frontline of Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Kofane struggled to influence proceedings, with substitute Georges-Kévin Nkoudou heading wide from close range.

Morocco’s disciplined defensive display set the stage for a decisive second strike. With 16 minutes remaining, Ezzalzouli whipped a precise cross into the area where Saibari controlled it brilliantly before dispatching a composed left-footed finish into the far corner, sealing the result and extinguishing any hopes of a Cameroonian comeback.

The Atlas Lions professionally managed the closing stages to secure their spot in the final four, where they will face either Nigeria or Algeria.

The win also extends Morocco’s remarkable unbeaten run to 22 matches (W20, D2), reinforcing their credentials as one of the tournament favourites.
